Don't step on my Dock!

I apologize if this has been discussed already, but:

I would like a way to make applications respect the Dock's real estate. Inevitably, my IE windows cascade their way on top of my Dock (on the right side of my screen). I would rather have windows stop at the edge of the Dock.

I don't know any way to do this, but it's certainly a good idea!

Of course, you know that you can hide it, but that's not a full solution.
