I'm running latest OSX, and would like to be able to print to our office HP LaserJet 5siNX.
this printer is not equipped with the postscript update.
I've tried setting up different printers for this, but all I ever get out of it when I try to print anything, is pages and pages of postscript code.

connected to the printer via ethernet..

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I may be way off base here, but I didn't think Macs (in OS X or OS 9) could print to HP's PCL (I think that's their native language) printers.

Anyone know for sure?

well there lies the problem. we've got linux boxes around here that are able to print to this printer just fine. I figured maybe someone, somewhere may have hacked up some solution or something for MacOSX to print to this printer as well.

thanks for the link, but I had tried this earlier when it was released. But it did not work for the LaserJet 5si
seems like if I understood the whole process better, this might work. But it was beyond me.

There isn't a printer called the 5si NX

There is a 5SIn which means it has a network card

There is a 5SIMX which means it is Multiplatform and has a network card.

Any LaserJet with a M has Adobe Postscript on it. D mean duplex.

Any laserjet can be turned into an M, N, D, or an MX by adding the appropriate item to the printer

Most of the newer HPs have a form of postscript on them that isn't Adobe, so the newer printers will not have an M and may still work with a Mac. I plugged my iBook into an HP4500n and it worked (via ethernet). I have also hooked an HP 1200 with USB to a G4 with success.

Sometimes you can find the postscript SIMM on ebay at a fair price.

Of course, anyone can remove the postscript SIMM from an M machine and it will still work , but not on a Mac :D
