From the news at the Fink Web site:
http://fink.sourceforge.net/
-------------
The Virex 7.2 package, currently being distributed free to all .Mac members, has a serious conflict with Fink.
Fink users should not install Virex 7.2 under any circumstances.
Installing it after Fink is installed will damage your Fink installation; installing it prior to Fink will make it impossible to install Fink without damaging Virex.
This bug has been reported to Virex's manufacturer. We will keep the Fink community informed about the situation as it develops.
--------------
Virex 7.2, free to all .mac members installs:
/Volumes/Virex 7.2.dmg/Virex 7.2.pkg 328 % lsbom Contents/Resources/Virex\ 7.2.bom | grep sw
./sw 40775 0/80
./sw/lib 40775 0/80
./sw/lib/libcrypto.0.9.6.dylib 100644 0/80 945416 3192711062
./sw/lib/libcurl.2.0.2.dylib 100644 0/80 634480 510417796

./sw/lib/libssl.0.9.6.dylib 100644 0/80 261776 3001832603
Found out on IRC, also someone noticed on the mcafee site.

There's also a discussion on Apple's .mac board (discussions.info.apple.com):
at: Systems Software Discussions-->.Mac-->Anti-Virus-->Topic: "sw" folder owned by root?????
http://discussions.info.apple.com/
Quoting Ben Hines:
"1. However this is very bad, because now fink users who install Virex will have their fink libraries overwritten.
2. Also, now every Virex user has a /sw/lib folder in their root. Fink won't install if it finds a /sw folder. They'll have to remove it to install fink later.
3. If fink is ever removed, Virex will break, because the /sw folder (and the libraries in it) will be gone. dynamic libraries must stay around, or the app won't launch."
