cannot allocate startup colormap - request for help

I have just installed Apple's X11 and am using the quartz-wm.
I have Gnome installed (running quartz-wm).

I am trying to window a remote program onto my Mac.

local machine xhost +remote
remote machine setenv DISPLAY local:0.0

When I invoke the program I get the following response.
