Hi,

Could somebody advise me on a reliable tape back-up device/ software to run on my Xserve OSX 10.5.4 server. I need to back up around 100 GB per day. Does any software come with OSX Server, for example Nt back-up comes with MS 2003 server?

is that 100GB of NEW data every day?...

or

100GB of data overall... but it needs backing up daily to a different source so you have a really comprehensive set of backups covering all days of the weeks...

also... does it have to be tapes?... or would you consider off site backups to another device synced over the net... or possibly external hard drives..?

Hi,

I decided to get Retrospect and a Sony AIT2 Tape drive.

Retrospect is a very good choice. They've been around since the days of Bernoulli drives and 20 MB hard drives and backup sets on floppy disks, and while not the most user-friendly of backup-sw interfaces, it's powerful and reliable.

We just set up Retrospect and a Tandberg tape drive at the place I just finished up a project for.

Actually I'm quite interested in this topic too. Are there any other recommendations?

I would probably choose to backup to disk(NAS) and removable drives for the offsite stuff or maybe even a internet solution.
