I recently bought a cheap MP3 player (a D-Link DMP-110 from tigerdirect.com), but the software only runs in Windoze. Short of using VPC - which may not even work - is there any apps or iTunes tricks to access a non-iPod MP3 player?

Have you tried plugging it in?
I know that sounds facetious, but my Rio 600 was recognized automagically by iTunes. And I spent quite a bit of time before that trying to get it to work properly.

Of course I plugged it in and even checked Sys Profiler to make sure that the USB device was detected. Alas, it doesn't show up on the desktop (like my USB camera) or in iTunes Source area. Seems like I'm stuck using Windoze.

Yeah, it does look like you're stuck using Windows. If you're looking for compatibility, check the manufacturer's web site. Often they'll have Mac utlities to use their products. Unfortunately, in the case of the DMP-110, it specifically says it's not Mac compatible :(
