I don't see why this should be iTunes specific but? The problem is that iTunes persists in starting on log-in, even though it's not in the log-in items, and restarts whenever I quit it. This means, among other things, that I can't log-out, restart or shut down properly because iTunes keeps coming back!

The problem predates upgrading to 10.2.4 - any ideas?

TIA - Nick

I've had this same problem. I think it has to do with the iPod.

Do you have an iPod?

Try ejecting it from iTunes before quitting iTunes. I have found that sometimes quitting itunes twice after removing the iPod makes it work normally.

Nope - I don't have an iPod.

Are you using any iTune control programs like Synergy? Something that is a login item that would try and start iTunes? Is there anything in your Library/StarupItems that might be causing the problem?

i have an ipod and synergy, and i have this problem from time to time. it always seems to be fixed by me first ejecting the ipod with itunes and then quiting itunes. if i do that once itunes seems to respect me quiting it regardless of the ipod status (or at least until i restart).

I have an iPod. I used to use Synergy, and every time I tried to quit iTunes, iTunes would restart. Synergy was the culprit (it's a known bug). I'm using PTHiTunesNotifier now, and it doesn't have that bug.

I don't know what to say about iTunes mysteriously starting at login, though. I've never experienced that.

It's the Album Cover widget in Konfabulator - it opens iTunes!

Thanks all - Nick

Album Cover 1.1 is OK!
