Hmm. No political comment, huh?
So I'm not allowed to say "Griffman for President"?
Seriously, a forum like this was probably top of my personal OS X wish-list. A big "cheers" to the man!

I must agree, Griffman deserves a medal. As one of the early public beta proponents (yes I've been running OS X as my main OS since it arrived) MacOSXHints was a daily dose of help to learn OS X and unix. The only thing about this new forum that I disagree with is the following statement in the privacy notice:
--We reserve the right to reveal your identity (or whatever information we know about you) in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any message posted by you. All IP numbers are logged for potential use in the administration of the site, or in the event of a legal proceeding.--
I feel that Rob should remove the language indicating that a complaint is sufficient to release personal information. Legal action, O.K. if it is required by a court. Mere complaints should not merit the release of info.
However, I do not expect Rob to abuse this clause. I am sure he has the character and foresight to protect the rights of others.
With that minor caveat said, I am very excited that these forums have arrived. I anticipate they will be the best OS X forums on the web.
Cheers,
Y

That wasn't what that was supposed to say! ;-)
Too many edits, too little time, and a deadline to hit (I had today off, so we really really wanted to launch today). Hang on a second...OK, it's gone now.
It was SUPPOSED to say "a legal complaint...etc" but I got my words twisted. So I just took it out.
And it wasn't just me on the forum stuff; Craig, John and Phil all had a hand in what we were going to do and how it was going to be done. I did much of the up-front design and technical implementation, but they'll do much of the day-to-day stuff from here on out. It's a team effort, and it has to be, for I can't imagine keeping this AND macosxhints going all by myself!
Nice catch, Yuri!

My complete faith has been restored with your new statement. Thanks again for everything Rob. One of the reasons I never fully participated in the macosx.com boards was there refusal to post a privacy policy despite my prodding. You (and your partners) have set the standard respectably high.
Cheers, I love you man ;-)

p.s. the new statement reads:
--Regardless of how this Privacy Statement may change or evolve over time, we will not collect or maintain your private and personally identifiable information without your consent. Further, if you consent to give us your personal information, we will keep it confidential and will not sell, license or disclose your personal information to any third party without your consent, unless we are compelled to do so under the law or to comply with a court order.--

Just to alleviate any possible confusion here "John" is my real name, and how Griff usually refers to me.
However, Griff deserves the lions share credit, though. Couldn't have happened without him, and its merely another aspect of his generous nature that he has allowed us to assist in any way.
Also, the wording had been bandied about back and forth with multiple revisions under tight deadline, so its not too surprising for that mistake to slip through. Good catch!

Cheers John Lerkfish,
I'm glad that you have deemed this endeavor worthy of your personal time. I think I understand your efforts...the betterment of computing experiences for humanity. I too contribute to this general cause in my support of http://wirelessdriver.sourceforge.net/
I hope that anyone else who feels the wealth will pitch in as their abilities allow--to whatever project tickles their fancy.

Yup, Rob busted his butt to grow macosxhints.com and has done the same here to take these forums from an idea into an already very lively discussion site.
Thanks to John and Phil too.
With the enthusiastic and thoughtful readership here, moderating should be a pure pleasure instead of a fight for one's life...
