XSane/GIMP plugin

I've been wanting to start xsane as a GIMP plugin, so I've made a symlink from GIMP's plugins directory to the xsane binary, as instructed on the xsane website. Then I've removed the pluginrc file to force a rebuild of the plugins cache. However, GIMP does not recognize the xsane plugin in the File/Acquire menu. Has anyone had any luck doing this? Any suggestions?

Following Miga's advice at Macfora (http://www.macfora.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9252), I changed the order of the package listings in fink.conf so that the unstable ones are built first, then did a selfupdate-cvs and rebuilt gimp and xsane, and now it works!
