Lately, my iPod won't turn on right away, even when the battery is fully or mostly charged. I find that it is more likely to turn on sooner when I have it plugged into the wall or my computer. Generally it requires lots of waiting or attempted resets to get it back. This behavior kicks even if I just pause my music for a while and it goes to sleep. I thought at first that i might be the add-ons from Pod2Go, but removing them didn't fix the problem. I do have it set up to mount as a firewire disk... could that be part of the problem? Any suggestions would be helpful. I have the 10 GB model.

Check this (http://www.ipoding.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=3) out, it's a built in diagnostic tool. A bit tricky to enable, caused no problems for me but use at your own risk!
Your best and safest bet is to wipe/reinstall the iPod software, here's (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983) a tutorial.
That might sort it out.

I kind of figured a re-install would be my best bet, but even at FireWire speeds I don't relish re-copying my entire collection. I'll play with the diagnostic tool though... although I'm not sure it will help.

Well, I did the complete reinstall. Was thoroughly impressed yet again by how speedy FireWire is, and my iPod worked fine for the rest of the afternoon. Once it turned off however, it was back to its old stubborn self. I think I will take it into the Apple Store new more house when I have a chance and have them look at it.
