Having a iPod 80GB 6G, I notice a big difference in sound quality compared to that of, say, my Mac or old CD player. (see this thread (http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=95761)).

Does anyone know if the iPod Classic 120GB is any better? I've already Google'd around and haven't found anything.

I do know that the 120 *may* be using some different chips, as it supports the new Remote/Mic/Earbud combo (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA850) from Apple, while the 80 and 160 don't.

This is just speculation on my part, but I would wager that the only physical difference in the 80GB and 120GB is just the capacity of the drive. Since the market for these HDD-based players are so small now it seems likely to me that Apple keep everything as simple as possible for the capacity update, which would include not saving 10¢ by using a cheaper audio chip.

THough you can test it out by going into an Apple store.
