Shuffle: how random is random?

Hi, my Shuffle seems to be overplaying many songs while not playing others at all.

I do realise 'random' can - theoretically - mean the same song played consecutively many times. However, I wonder how the Shuffle actually selects songs 'at random'?

Is there any capacity e.g. for it to select the least played songs first? In that way all songs would eventually get played.

This is a common issue. (http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/ipodshuffle/topic2959.html) You could create a Smart Playlist with Last Played is not in the last 1 days and maybe some other limitations. Set the Limit to X number of hours, selected by random. Leave Live updating on.
