Hello. So I have a 4th Generation Ipod that I am trying to restore in order to sell it, probably on ebay. I replaced the Logic board and the front panel in it and it worked fine up until today when I tried to format it for a Mac (I previously had it formatted for my father's computer which was a Dell) and then it started acting really odd.

The Disk Utility took forever to do and then when I plugged it into Itunes it took me multiple attempts to get the restore to work. Then I attempted to transfer music onto it and only the first 3 cds in my library transferred when the ipod would eject itself from the computer and nothing would be on the ipod as if the music deleted itself.

Later on when I restarted itunes and tried to so the restore option again it wouldn't let me saying that there were files on the Ipod being used by other applications and when I tried to eject it I got the same message.

I am almost positive that when I did the disk utility thing I screwed something up because it worked almost like brand new up until then and I am wondering if anyone had any idea on how to get it back into working order.

Thank You

Unless you are going to use the entire iPod as a large, external drive, then you shouldn't format it using Disk Utility. Rather, restoring it in iTunes should bring it over to the Mac side just fine.

I hate to sound dense, but have you run Disk Utility on the iPod to check for errors? Try that, to see if Disk Utility did, in fact, mess up something on the drive.
