Pro mic for iPod Touch (2nd gen)

Is there a way to connect a professional microphone (Sure SM58, let's say or similar XLR type mic) to the iPod Touch (2nd gen) and use it to record pro audio? I know there are some really good recording apps for the Touch but am curious to see if there is any way to record audio (out in the field for my radio show) without having to use a low quality headset mic.
