Does anyone know the name of the device used to provide 12v charging to the 5v ipods? It looks just like a 30pin connector, is black and will allow you to charge your iPod Touch (2ndgen) and iphone, etc. using a 12v dock connector.
Having a heck of a time trying to remember it from when I saw a quick write-up in either MacLife or Macworld.
thanks

Perhaps the Griffin PowerJolt Car Charger for iPhone or iPod, http://store.apple.com/us/product/TS267LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA0MQ&mco=MjQzNTIyMQ ?

No, that's not it. The device Im talking about is only a little bigger than the actual 30 pin connector plug. No cords at all.
Thanks for help though. Much appreciated.

Maybe Griffin's PowerBlock Reserve, http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/powerblock-reserve ? "At the same time you’re charging your player’s internal battery, you’re also charging the detachable Reserve battery pack for your iPod or iPhone." Uses a 12V dock. No cords.

No, that's not it either. It's about the size of that Griffin product but you plug in your 30 pin connector into IT and then plug IT into the iPod.
I'm trying to use my older Peripheral brand ipod car adapter. Been having a heck of a time trying to get it work and they've been bending over backwards for me but no matter what they send (5v connector) I can't get it to work.
It works with the old 12v connector but it doesn't charge. So I'm trying to find this device I'm looking for. Thanks again.

but it doesn't charge

Apple apparently considers the 30-pin dock connector almost (completely?) proprietary and therefore changeable as Apple chooses. Thus an old device with a 30-pin connector, especially a device not made directly by Apple, may well become incompatible with a newer iPod.

See: http://pinouts.ru/Devices/ipod_pinout.shtml
Note especially the changes described under pin 27.

But that still leaves your original question, to which I have no answer.
