Please help with this problem as it is driving me mad!

I have downloaded some videos from youtube (not copy write) onto `Realplayer' and they work fine.

I have converted these videos using `Prizm video converter' and placed them in a itunes folder ready to go onto the ipod.

When I open Itunes and request "add file to library" I find the folder Itunes and on pressing "open" would presume the file would transfer into my library, this does not happen and I cannot work out why.

You can probably see I am not into this sort of problem but with a bit of help I will get there.

Thanks for any input

Well ... you can likely use Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/) to easily do the conversions from the files that you have.

You will have to make sure that the target format is supported by your device. I don't know what kind of iPod you have, but here is an example for the iPod Classic:

I think you're making this task harder than it needs to be. Get an app that snags YouTube .flv formatted video and converts it to an iPod-compatible .mp4 format in a single step. I like Get Tube, http://web.mac.com/simonvrel/en/gettube/gettube.html. If you want an app that will download the YouTube .flv, convert it to an iPod-compatible .m4v, and then put that .m4v directly into iTunes, try TubeTV, http://www.chimoosoft.com/products/tubetv/. I'll bet if you look around, you may be also to find an app that takes YouTube video, converts it, and moves it straight to an attached iPod with just a click or two. If that app doesn't exist, it will soon.

Now Handbrake can convert both DVD and video to iPod on Mac.
See this guide:
