Hi all,
My computer was stolen last week and just got a new one. Now I also have bought quite a few apps on itunes but ofcourse they don't show up on the new itunes now. I have authorised the computer and all that, but I still can't see any applications re-downloading or anything. I'm afraid that when I sync the ipod I will lose everything cause it will use all the info of the computer to sync and not the info of the ipod it seems...
How do I get all the apps I bought back on my itunes?
tnx.
BTW... for who cares. You can add a message to the login window in leopard with your own info. I think that that might be one of the simplest ways of protecting your computer. I've put in there now that if you are not me (my name) then this computer is stolen. With my details. Just so you know. I didn't know that.. do now.

Apple encourages users to back up iTunes purchases, because they don't officially provide a way to re-download purchased content. However, I do know that they are capable of re-issuing downloads. Try contacting iTunes Store support and see if they can't help you in this situation. If you used Time Machine with your old computer, then you should already have your apps backed up in your old iTunes folder.

Unfortunately, that's irrelevant for the most part. A thief can wipe your computer with a clean install of OS X using any retail install disc. If they don't know how or they don't have the discs, then they are likely to sell it to some unscrupulous individual who does. Only the truly stupid ones would try to sell a computer on which they can't login to an honest buyer.

Ah ok. I didn't know I could actually backup the apps at all. I think I could also purchase them again and if I'm lucky they will say that I've already purchased them and if I like to download them again... it's just a bit of a hassle. So I'll try first to ask them if they could re-issue them again (I've got all the receipts of the downloads in my mail).
About the stealing... that's very true indeed. I just think that people who steal computers are not the brightest people... if they had any kind of intelligence they would have a job, right?

Hey I just found out that there is an option in the File menu to transfer purchases from the ipod. Seems to do what I wanted it to do!...
hmz... I DO HAVE A JOB! =P

I was under the impression that option only transferred purchases originally made on the iPod Touch/iPhone. I'm not sure that I read that anywhere, I think it was just an assumption I made. Let us know how that works out for you.

The iTunes Store tracks what apps you've previously purchased, will notify you that you've previously purchased the app, and ask if you want to download it again.

The apps are stored within our home folder:
/Users/you/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications
So... if your account is backed up somewhere,
well -- there it is.
