I've used the Apple-supplied 'buds for various portable audio gadgets for as long as I can remember (a few CD players, all of my iPods, MacBook Pro etc). So when I ditched my iPhone for the T-Mobile G1, I found that the Apple 'buds didn't work! (This is because of the Mic clicker. It only works when the Mic clicker is clicked down and held like that.)

My solution was to put the clicker in a pair of vice grips. It worked, as long as the clicker was pushed down. So I went over to the stove and melted the plastic a little bit so it stayed down. Works fine.

While this did work, I looked to order the regular set without the clicker from Apple. Lo and behold, they no longer sell it!

Unfortunately, I still am not satisfied with this mod, so I'm going to search for a new set of earbuds. The main reason I swear by the Apple 'buds is because my ears are extremely comfortable with them. They don't hurt my ears like some others' do.

So, if anyone could point me to a great set of earbuds that work for them, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm not exactly a fan of in-ear, but if they're extremely comfortable I'll roll with them. I'm looking to spend a maximum of $100.

The earbuds will be used with my G1 (which means no inline controls, period) and my iPod classic.

I used to have a pair of Sony MDR-EX 71 (http://http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-EX71SLA-Fontopia-Bud-Style-Headphones/dp/B000JKHXPQ/) earphones. The link to Amazon has them at $15 which is much less than I paid for my pair two years ago (~$70).

Initially, they were a bit uncomfortable because I had never worn that kind of earphone before, but I quickly got used to them. The bass was really good, and their design naturally blocks out a fair bit of background noise.

They eventually broke after just over a year of heavy use - the bit where the cable connects to the 3.5mm jack (inside the moulded plug) had come loose. I don't think it was indicative of the build quality however.

I'm also looking for a pair. Mines always wear out quickly and I have to change them every year.

I'm now looking for something that will last long, something strong, sturdy.
I actually don't really care that much about quality of sound, decent sound is good enough since I only use my ipod for podcast, audio book and foreign language lessons. for about 2 hours a day.

Any one here who use her/his ipod every day and is happy with the build quality of the earbuds?

Cheers
