Is the emlx file format documented?

I can't find any documentation on the structure or Apple's emlx files. Any ideas?

googling for emlx will not only reveal that Emulex changed its ticker symbol to ELX in 2002, there's also a quite helpful blog-entry here:

It is slightly disappointing Apple didn't use maildir instead.

In spite of efforts such as open-sourcing webkit, there seem to be some people at Apple who can't get over the not-invented-here syndrom and cook up weird duplicates of existing formats.

The five hits at apple don't seem to document the format:

Thanks. I checked those same places. I'm somewhat surprised there is no documentation yet.

My work email account is web based and each employee only gets 25MB of space (a pittance!). I've been forwarding all of my email to a gmail account for a permanent record. Then I use mail to get the gmail onto my Mac. Of course, every single message looks like it comes from me at work. I was hoping I could write a script to edit every emlx file so the original From and To address would be appear instead.

If I were you, I'd ask the same question in Apples own forums.

Should nothing interesting come up, consider filing a radar bug (free ADC-login needed, experience shows pretty good results, at least you're sure to be read by someone who'll try to do what he can to be able to close the bug).

Isn't what you can extract from the blog entry and personal reversing good enough to do what you want ?

You could also consider more convoluted setups such as pumping the mail through a local mailserver where you munge the headers.

Probably. I just need to put some time into it.
