Making DVD drive region free

I bought a Lacie 300978EK to play region 1 movies on my Macbook. This works fine, but can anyone help me convert this drive to play all regions please? I am sure there must be a way.

that would be a firmware change to the drive.
doing it could make the drive unusable, look here for the update
