server converts files to .bin

I ran into this problem with our os x server. Since I couldn't find any answer using google and the search in this forum, so I thought I'd post it here.

When some of my colleagues place files in an FTP folder, the server (for some reason) converts those files to the .bin extension. So when a client tries to download that file from our server he can't open it.

My colleagues place files in the FTP folder by connecting to the server through afp and than dragging and dropping the files.
Server Version: MAC OS X Server 10.4.10 (Build 8R218)

I hope someone can tell me why this is happening and how I can solve this.
Thanks in advance!

The FTP service has features to automatically convert certain file types. There's a checkbox for the feature in Server Admin. You should read the section in Apple's File Services PDF about FTP. It's on Apple's support site.

Server Admin > FTP > Settings > General
I unchecked "Enable MacBinary and disk image auto-conversion" under "File conversion", that did the trick.

Thanks for your hint giskard22.
