I saw that in MacWorld's RSS feed. Their source was this report in Bloomberg.

I don't think Apple is going to be very happy about the AT&T CEO talking about future Apple products.

Agreed. Especially talking about them in such a way that a significant number of people are going to decide not to buy current Apple prouct, and during a Christmas buying season where the iPhone is projected to be a huge seller.

I saw my first iphone at school the other day, and i went on the edge service on safari, and it was quite quick, so a 3g one will only be an improvement

There are a ton of reports that this is just AT&T playing hardball with Apple because there are rumors that their relations aren't going so well, or something of the sort. Just what i have been hearing around the Apple related blogs.

Well Apple and Steve Jobs both announced that there will be a 3G iPhone in 2008 late 2008 like may or june. Also an iPhone with a bigger flash drive will be released in early 2008 perhaps macworld. So ther should be 2 updates to the update and then the great SDK kit that has been released to select developers will hopefully make the iphone the way we want it.

What I need is an iPhone with a longer battery life, make the thing a bit thicker such that it can accommodate a bigger battery capacity. My iPhone runs out of battery right around 2pm every day. I do use iPhone and I spend at least 4 hours on the phone everyday. I miss my bb perl, once I run out of battery, all I had to do is open the back cover and swap the battery and all is good. A removable battery would be nice too.

Im sure there are things you can do to increase the battery life, brightness of the screen, turning the bluetooth off. But a better battery is very possible, but you have to understand this is the first gen of what is sure to be a product that has a long successful reign in the phone market.

Also apple wouldn't have a removable back cover as it would ruin the design greatly, you'll have to make do, or better yet have to seen those self wind chargers

Most of us find the battery life quite sufficient, but for heavy users there are options such as the extra batteries you can add. There are mobile rechargers and "backpack" batteries for iPods that will also work with the iPhone. I considered buying one early on until I realized that the battery life is far more than I need. I charge in the car, office, and home, and have never had to think about battery life. I did find that it would be low after a three day weekend on the boat, so I put a charger there too, solved.

The bad new is, it is still on AT&T. Won't ever switch to AT&T that company hasn't a clue of what they are doing. It amazes me how dumb a company can be ran and how it isn't driven out of business. I guess lack of competition helps, and the fact that this big telecom companies just buy out anyone else that could potentially threaten them.

EDIT

Also, technically speaking, their Edge network is like already 2.5 or 2.8G so its not like its a huge upgrade.

Isn't the name all that remains of the company known as AT&T a couple years ago?

There is some continuity. You have to go back many years to when AT&T was a government sanctioned monopoly. It was split up into several companies and one of them was Southwestern Bell. Which became SBC, which bought up about a dozen other phone companies that were originally split off from AT&T. So SBC has about as much right to call themselves AT&T as anybody.

Looking up "Ma Bell" in Wikipedia gives an idea of what AT&T used to be and what some of it's former parts are today.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ma_Bell

Before reading this I didn't realize that Verizon was originally part of AT&T.

Is your Auto Lock set to "Never"?

I find that if I leave it set to Never, I get less than a day. Set to 1 Minute and, like CAlvarez, I get over 2 days. Might be worth checking.

3G or not, the iPhone really needs some serious software work on Apple's end, for example: users should be able to save an email attachment locally on the iphone and be able to view later without having to re-download attachment from server. Ability to have multiple calendars and sync properly with iCal.app.
