password reset utility not working

Running mac os x 10.5

I cannot login with any of my accounts
mine
my wifes
administrator

I've used the reset password utility off the DVD install disk
Doesn't work, boots right to login window, can't login in

I've booted into single user mode and tried adding a admin user, so I could login and access my other accounts. (Tip I found via google)
This doesn't work either, no new admin account created... still stuck on login screen with no usable login

I've been trying to create another admin user using the following tip

dscl . -create /Users/"admin"
dscl . -create /Users/"admin" UserShell /bin/bash
dscl . -create /Users/"admin" RealName "Administrator"
dscl . -create /Users/"admin" UniqueID "id"
dscl . -create /Users/"admin" PrimaryGroupID "20"
dscl . -create /Users/"admin" NFSHomeDirectory /Users/admin
dscl . -passwd /Users/"admin" "password"
dscl . -append /Groups/admin GroupMembership admin

But this hasn't worked for me yet..

What I'm seeing on screen.. and I'm not sure I understand all of it...

launchclt: Dubious ownership on file (skipping) ./andre
launchclt: Dubious ownership on file (skipping) ./jennifer
launchclt: propertyList is NULL
launchclt: no plist was returned for: ./passwd
launchclt: no plist was returned for : ./passwd

I'm trying to understand... is this saying my login and my wife's login passwords don't exist anymore???

Someone on the forum talked about altering the permissions...

I've used apple's suggestion on how to reset the admin password via singleuser, but this hasn't worked either

I can't do a Archive and Install because it doesn't exist during the reinstall options. Just Clean Install (wipes drive clean)

I've run Disk Utilities disk permissions... all is good

I've been working on this for the last 4 hours... and it's getting late...
What should I do???

Help anyone???
Thanks
Andre

What's the history of this problem? When did it start? What had you done recently before that?

What model of Mac do you have?

Angry info

model mac: 1.8 , 2 gigs ram, os x server 10.5

History: Just started after turning on open directory in the admin tools. Computer froze running itunes, wife rebooted... now login screen doesn't accept any logins or passwords

fsck doesn't fix anything
disk utility doesn't fix anything
safeboot doesn't work goes right to login
holding down x key doesn't force system start
firmware resetting of nvram and all doesn't fix anything
password reset utility off install disk doesn't fix anything
Archive and Install not even an OPTION for reinstallation?? (why)

Did turning on open directory messup the login accounts?

I've tried adding a new account via singleuser mode, that didn't work.
I've tried resetting passwords via singleuser mode, that didn't work either.

I'm currently running techtool pro to see if it finds anything it can fix...
My last option, unless someone can help, is to use another mac, try to migrate my existing system/setup into the new install on another mac

Uggggg

Ran the mac in target disk mode, was able to access the data....
tried to change some permissions, that didn't work

It seemed like user folder was locked with 'everyone' having 'none' set to it...
Nothing was in the home folder

Suggestions?

password reset utility not working

Hey there, I am having exactly the same problem, can not get passed NAME and PASSWORD screen. I have changed the password using the original disc, but still no joy. Did you ever get yours sorted. Any advice gratefully received, Stuart
