Is there any way to make fractals in Photoshop or Illustrator? Exuse my ignorance.

I don't know about doing it with Photoshop or Illustrator, but you can (and I do) make them with this free app: http://xaos.sf.net/ What's really fun is that you get to zoom in and out in real time, so it feels like you're flying through a fractal landscape.

Thanks for the link, ataraxia, I'll check it out!

agnosticgod, does that image change according to the time of day? What's the link for it, or how did you do it? Excuse my ignorance once again, I've been using Macs for my whole life but haven't really gotten into the fiddly bits

Priority One, that looks like EarthDesk, one of a few similar applications.

Nice candle, Daniel_C.

Nice candle, Daniel_C.

It is the freeware OSXPlanet that was on the "few similar" link. I thought about the EarthDesk, but until I run into any problems from OSXPlanet then I will probably stay with what I have.

And yes it does update according to the time. It also shows the current location of the Space Station and Hubble Telescope, along with real cloud cover, volcano, and earthquake information. I have the earthquake and volcano options turned off though.

tlarkin that image looks like a scanned in photo image. Do you really need the other people in the background?

I changed it because grey is boring. This one has same theme, different colors. I like colors.

There's mine. I used Stattoo (Unfortunately, not registered), and that desktop came from deviantart.

I went to the site that you linked, and that is one genius of an idea! Low level arial photography, from a model helicopter of all things! I wonder, is it less of a distraction? Could you use it at a gathering, like a concert, to take aerial shots without bugging people? I would imagine that little model would at least by less distracting than a full size helicopter eh?

And as a general note, I think it's interesting how much you can tell by looking at someones dock... Though it's kind of funny, I keep trying to role over the docks with my mouse so it will tell me the .apps name...I must be tired. I hate finals.

At home I generally keep my wallpaper for a while until I get bored with it or run across something I like better, but at work I like to switch it up. I have this automator script (http://www.maxieduncan.com/software/ngpodwallpaper.php) in my login items, so whenever I get to work and start up it goes online and gets the National Geographic photo of the day and sets it as my wallpaper. It's pretty cool.
