Same Issue
Hi There!
I'm experiencing the same issue here. I find, however, that I can use finder to manually connect to the server using its IP address. And then, I can use the share as normal. Not Happy, Jan. |

Samba
Hi
upgraded to snow leopard yesterday can now no longer access smb mounts. says that the password is incorrect. But go to mac with leopard and its fine. Samba mounts are being published by a linux server running Redhat. I am using Model Name: Mac Pro Model Identifier: MacPro1,1 Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz Number Of Processors: 2 Total Number Of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB Memory: 8 GB Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz can anyone help really need to access these mounts thanks Treds |

Manually i know how it works: open Finder, press K, and enter the IP address of the host, but i want that the Mac find shared host by itself as in Leopard |

Yes, I know. I'd like it as well. Even when I do mount it manually, I find some programs (Office:2008) cannot save a file due to a permission issue. |

Finally, I have found a solution for the problem: I had to change the security level in samba from SHARE to USER... Got the hint in one of the apple forums:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread....1173 They also recommend trying switching on/off password encryption... I would try with those settings on the samba server. Anyway, that change in Snow Leopard is kind of annoying... |

Same here: worked in Leopard, stopped working in Snow Leopard. I'm trying to access two SAMBA devices: a WD Netcenter and a Linksys NSLU2 running the Unslung firmware. Public shares mount fine, but when I try to authenticate to access private shares it always fails. It doesn't matter if I use the server's IP address or hostname - same result.
Has someone filed a bug report with Apple? This is pretty major. |

I Fixed It!
I’ve fixed my problem!
As far as I can tell, Snow Leopard is fully capable of discovering the network share, but it is having problems resolving the IP address of the server. So, if you edit /etc/hosts and add the IP address and host name of your server, Snow Leopard knows exactly where to find the server and all is solved. For example: 192.168.1.x hostname I’m sure there is an easier way to do this with DNS masquerading on one’s router, but this is certainly a quick fix. I hope this has helped, milage may vary. hhcv (AsciiCatz!) |

For quite a few users - including me - in different Apple discussions, changing the password to contain only numbers works around this issue.

I was having the same issues. my server linux samba PDC.
What did i changed to get it to work. i had to change this line (on server) in nsswitch.conf hosts: files dns wins (notice the last wins) basicly turning the wins server on made it all work without have to put in ip numbers or adding them to the host file |
