well, it's fairly easy to change the dates on a given file programmatically, and it's not unheard of for dates to change because of some system fubar (though usually fubars will reset the dates to the 1970's. so the answer is yes. it shouldn't happen, though, so it would be worth the time to figure out what's going on.
