disk utility help
Hey everyone! Hoping somebody might be able to help me out here. Why is it that when in disk utility drives show up twice in the left column? I've attached a screen shot of what I'm talking about? Which one do you repair permmisions to? I don't get it. I'm confused.
Thanks in advance to any help! George |

You show two drives, because you have two hard drives that your system can see.
Each entry shows the hard drive - 320.07 GB Hitiachi HTS54.... - which is the hardware, the drive itself with manufacturer's info and then, directly underneath is a line for the partition, with it's name - Macintosh HD. You hard drive might have multiple partitions, and you would have a line under your device with the name of each partition, if it has one. So then, which line do you pick for repairing permissions? Either one will allow you to do that process. note - a permissions repair seldom will fix anything, unless you are actually having permissions problems, and usually is a waste of time.... just thought I'd point that out if you're not confused enough already
