Angry weird iTunes/rendezvous problem

Hi all,

I have the following setup:
iBook500, 10.2.6, iTunes4.0.1, AirPort;
iMac G4, 10.2.6, iTunes4.0.1, connected to a DSL router via ethernet, sharing its internet connection via AirPort.
Firewalls on both machines off;
Rendezvous enabled on both machines;
iTunes sharing enabled on both machines.
Both machines obviously have more than one IP (depending on the network interface) but are on the same subnet (255.255.255.0).

I can do:
FileSharing in both directions (AirPort or IPoverFireWire);
use the iMac's internet connection from the iBook (AirPort or IPoverFireWire);
use a printer connected to the iMac from the iBook (AirPort or IPoverFireWire);
see the iBook's music library from the iMac (iTunes) (AirPort or IPoverFireWire);
see the iMac's music library from the iBook (iTunes) using FireWire

I cannot:
see the iMac's music library from the iBook (iTunes) using AirPort

This problem was there before the "upgrade" to iTunes 4.0.1.

In short: I can't use my vast library of mp3s when sitting on the porch with my iBook (apart from mounting the iMac's HD via AirPort and adding all mp3s to the iBook's library, which I could do with iTunes1). Can anyone help me?

Hi have a very similar problem, so I thought he might be good to add it to this thread rather than starting a new one. I also have an iBook (2001) and iMac (2003). The iMac is connected by ethernet to an SMC wireless barricade 7004AWBR router; the iBook is connected to the router through airport. The iBook's iTunes library shows up through rendezvous on my iMac. But my iMac's library is not visible from iTunes on the iBook (no firewall, sharing on, etc.). Accessing either computer through "connect to server" in the finder is unreliable. I have suspected that it has something to do with the router treating the wired network (iMac) and wireless network (iBook) in a way that is incompatible with rendezvous. But then why would I be able to see and use the itunes library of the iBook from the iMac? Any thoughts or insights?

try disabling he second interfaces on the machines and only have te LAN setup, it might be something to do with apple and there sharing restriction unless the computers are on the same subnet

Did 4.0 work?

I have the same problem, but no answer.

I am using an SMC 7004AWBR like one of the posters, with the following config:

G4 wired
iBook 500 wireless with Airport card.
Firewalls off, iTunes sharing on everywhere.

G4 can access iBook's library
iBook CANNOT access G4's library.

But if I plug the iBook in to the router with an Ethernet cable, it CAN, immediatly.

SMC tech support hastn't been able to help me and I haven't seen any posts on the apple boards that help.
(Quite the contrary, there are several with the same problem).

Enabling Port 3689 does not seem to help.
