Angry ipod hangs

I have a 20GB ipod (purchased last Dec) that has been working perfectly up until 3 weeks ago when we noticed the occasional hang (either when routine playing through an album or when changing to another song/album, etc). Since that time, the the frequency of ipod hangs has incrimentally increased to the point of dysfunctioning just about each time we try to use it. We can reset it with the menu/play keys but usually to create another hang. Has anyone else had this problem?? I did note the posts re the ipod hangs when the audio jack is inserted but my problem is different.

Talking

oops, forgot to add that I am running version 1.3 on the ipod with 16.6 GB available. The problems did occur after updating to the itunes 2, but don't know if causally related....
