Use Mozilla to easily track all forum discussions
For those of you who haven't tried it, Mozilla supports "tabbed browsing". This is basically the Excel concept of multiple worksheets in one workbook, except it's multiple browser windows in one main application window.
You can configure Mozilla (in the Tabbed Browser pref panel) to open a new tab when you command-click a link, and to have the new tabs open in the background (ie the foreground browser window doesn't change). Using Mozilla along with the "View new posts" link on the main page of the forum site, it's quite easy to keep up with any story in any forum that you'd like to follow. Click the "View new posts" link and then command-click on any story of interest in the resulting list. Each will open in a tab of its own while not changing the foreground page. Click on all the stories you are interested in, then hit control-page down to move to the first story (or just click on the second tab). When done, hit command-W and the current tab will close, taking you to the next tab automatically. I do this a couple times a day to quickly see what's happening here...I can scan all the new posts and read the stories of interest with a minimal number of mouse clicks and no jumping about between forums. -rob. |
