I've got a KVM switch (package said all computer systems and OSs, but they forgot to mention not specifically for OS X and Macs) from JustCom. It uses a keyboard command to switch between computers. I have a G5 dual 2GHz, and a PC I just built. I'm using the Logitech Elite Keyboard (designed for OS X and PCs, even has the keys marked both ways).
The keyboard command is Scroll Lock. It works when I hit scroll lock twice in less than two seconds going from the PC to the Mac, but not the other way. The only way to go back to the PC is to shut down the Mac. Not an acceptable option. Before I sell it on eBay, can anyone tell me how I can send scroll lock to the KVM switch over USB. Like an Apple script? Terminal? Anything?

And these KVMs don't offer the option of switching computers from the KVM itself? What brand are they? All the KVMs I've had to use have had the ability to push a button on the face of the KVM to switch computers. The keyboard command is just an extra convenience.

The KVM is a JustCom JC-102CUA. The manfacturer webpage about it is: http://www.justcomtech.com/Products/...switch_CUA.htm.
There is no manual switch; it's one of of the tiny ones with the cables molded into the main box. Jason |

Funny… Even though no platforms are mentioned in the main body of the text of that document, Trademarks are credited at the end for almost everything except Mac.
I suspect if a script could be written to turn on and off the Scroll Lock LED on the keyboard, this would effectively switch the KVM.

I did notice that trademark credit. Overall it's a very poorly done website and I'm not very impressed with the company (that link is just one frame, so you didn't get to see the worst parts) had I know anything about them when I bought the KVM, I'd have avoided them. I also noticed the PS/2 version of the KVM says it does support the Mac (with a suitable adapter for the PS/2 output), and it has a lot more features, but its commands all start with a double-scroll lock, so I wonder how that's supposed to work any better with a Mac. As far as your script idea, it would probably work, but the Mac doesn't seem to be aware of a scroll lock LED. I've been looking at the systems preferrences screen without any sucesses. The Help feature has no matches for Scroll Lock. Do you know of any way to toggle the LED? Online searching has been even worse. I've found people suggesting pressing Esc-S or Esc-Y, but they do nothing on my PB, and I've seen suggestions for ctrl-F14, but my keyboard only goes up to F12. Jason |
