Powerbook/mobile phone GPRS internet connection.
Hi All,
Is it possible to connect my Panther Powerbook to the internet via my Nokia 6230 GPRS connection and, if so, how? Thanks for any advice. Gavin |

I'm not familiar with the 6230. If it has Bluetooth, it's easy to make a connection. The site has a few hints applicable to GSM phones in general. You could take a look at the one for the V600 and just choose your phone type instead of Motorola V600 in the pull-down.
If you don't have Bluetooth, you'd need a USB cable.

It is possible as long as you have a data account enabled with your service provider.
/edit. I assumed you meant by bluetooth. I have tried to use my T610 over bluetooth, but it didn't work, then I realised I needed to enable my data account. ![]() then I dropped the phone in a puddle and have yet to pair/set up my SE Z600 with the puter yet...hmm, might do that tonight.

Thanks for the replies Gents.
My data account is enabled but what are the mechanics of setting up the PB to "see" the GPRS connection? I tried via the Bluetooth setup but that way always requests a phone number - am I supposed to put it down as an ethernet connection? I really am lost here. Any further help appreciated. Cheers Gavin |

Did you read the document I referred to and add the modem scripts? If so, then the phone number will be the APN name. It varies by provider. For T-Mobile it will be internet2.voicestream.com or wap.voicestream.com for typical use. If you have already requested VPN access, it is internet3.voicestream.com.

Try setting the phone number to *99***1# This works for me on AT&T Wireless. It also worked for me when roaming in the UK. Set your Bluetooth network setup on your powerbook to TCP/IP Using PPP PPP Section Leave all blank except phone number *99***1# Bluetooth Modem I set this to Ericcson Infrared No error correction No waiting for dialtone |
