iTunes Problems in 10.3.6 (GUI not responding)
I'm not sure if this problem coincided with the 10.3.6 update, but, for the past week or two i have noticed some very odd behavior with iTunes.
Randomly, seemingly, iTunes windows will not respond to any clicks. There is no beachballing, just no response at all, like i'm clicking a picture of the iTunes window. I also notice this non-responding GUI behavior when the iTunes window is minimize, and i try to click any of the buttons. The only cure is a relaunch, but this keeps coming back. I haven't installed anything recently, and this is all i get from Console (looks like Synergy is also having trouble talking to iTunes too). Very confused, any help is grealty appreciated. I desperately want my iTunes to work properly again! Code:

EDIT: Just realized i recently installed the GasLight.bundle visualizer for iTunes, not sure if this is the problem, but it is the only thing i have installed recently. I have removed it, we'll see if this is the problem. Last edited by MBHockey; 12-06-2004 at 04:27 PM. |

I've been having similar issues with iTunes just freezing to input completely, but haven't installed anything other than the Dec 2 system update. I don't get anything in my console, though -- it's very bizarre.
Same symptoms -- doesn't respond to mouse clicks or keyboard commands, but there's no beach ball and if it is playing it will keep running through the playlist without any trouble. Usually the way I discover it is frozen is that I want to skip a track and it doesn't work. I can force quit and restart and it's fine. |

Over the course of the day, i've found that i cannot pin point the problem to the GasLight plug in.

The Component Manager is part of QuickTime that allows 3rd party developers to configure their products to play nicely with it. See here
Apple in the blurb for 10.3.6 says they have improved compatability for 3rd party developers. And just before the 10.3.6 updater came out, Apple released QT 6.5.2 updater. So it wouldn't surprise me if the recent rash of posts with these error mesages were because a 3rd party app or plugin hasn't been updated to work with the latest from Apple. Of course, there maybe something wrong with the above updaters - but well, my iTunes is "unvarnished" and is fine. i.e. So I'd check that every plugin or 3rd party app (not just ones related to iTunes) that might have cause to use the QT frameworks was compatible with your current system. If you can pinpoint the app, give the developer some feedback so they can sort it out. Other than downgrading your system, I can't think of any other way of dealing with this. [EDIT I cannot find one on my system, but does QT produce an error log? Also you might have a look in QT preferences (i.e System Preferences), and see if there's any unusual in there.] Last edited by bramley; 12-07-2004 at 08:51 AM. |
