I am trying to get a wireless card for a powerbook G4 (about 3 years old, DVI model i believe), and i dont want to pay $100+ for the airport card. i found a list of compatible pc cards here and the belkin F5d7011 was listed to be compatible with OS 10.2-10.4 (the computer has 10.3.7 i believe), and uses the airport 3.4.1 drivers. when i install the pc card into the g4 nothing happens. nothing on the computer, none of the lights on the pc card come on. i also tried downloading and installing the airport 3.4.1 drivers, but it said there was a newer version already installed.

this is my girlfriends computer, and i am a beginner when it comes to macs. is there something else i need to do in order for this to work? anyone done this with a similar 'pc-only' 802.11g card in a powerbook? i work at bestbuy, so if there is a different one sold there that is more compatible i greatly appreciate the help.

Smile Wireless Networking with Titanium PowerBook G4

I bought a Belkin Wireless G Notebook Network Card Part No. F5D7010 version 3000. This worked fine with the utility at the Belkin website:

http://www.belkin.com/support/downlo...ad=1623&lang=1

It was $49 Australian and it works with a Belkin Wireless modem in the next room. My husband uses a PC and he connects fine as well. We are new to this and my Powerbook G4 is four years old. The supply of the Airport cards has dried up but still can get them on eBay. However, the Airport card is much slower.

Hi,

I bought a Belkin FSD7010 for my Pismo, on the strength of someone here saying that as it had the same chip set as the Airport card, it was recognised by the Airport software as an Airport. In fact it remains completely dead, the signal receive light flickers on when the card is inserted, then nothing. I have also down loaded the aerocardx2 driver software, which claims to also drive it and the same happens, nothing.

My understanding is that Belkin (and most of these manufacturers) change the chipsets in these cards frequently, and you never know if you're going to get one of the compatible ones or not. It's sort of a crapshoot unless you buy a real Airport card.

Hi,

I've down loaded the Belkin driver and after a lot of messing about, I've got a semi stable radio connection right on top of the Netgear Router, any where else, the signal drops in seconds... I think I'll stick to LAN.

Thanks for the Belkin driver.

hi deidra
i was so excited to stumble across your post re belkin FSD7010 v3 wireless card. I am frustrated trying to get it to work with my TI Power book but NO GO! After downloading the drivers etc. card is not recognised and does not light up or show any signs of function. What magic did you do to make it work?

Any ideas will be appreciated

cheers
