Safari Memory Leaks

I usally use webkit, but switched back to safari because of problems with GMail.
Anyway, I think there's a memory leak (Safari's RAM useage was 100MB the other day)
Anyone else having problems with Safari Memory leaks?

I usally only have one webpage/tab open at a time.

No kidding .
Safari is the canonical example of an app leaking memory like there was no tomorrow...
To be fair, they've fixed a whole lot of it over time.

Try to use the most recent version you can.

Getting worse?

I'd never really noticed Safari memory leaks until the last two or three months.
Now, I'm getting fairly routine circumstances where I have one window open with one tab, and Safari's using 1.5 or 1.6 gigabytes (!) of virtual memory.

Have they broken something recently? Any hope for a fix in 10.4.next? It's gotten bad enough that I've switched to Firefox for a lot of my daily browsing. (Note: this happens on my PowerMac desktop, my PowerBook G4 laptop, and an Intel laptop too.)

Solution

I had a problem with Safari too. Sometimes it used more than 600MB of memory. I had 3 plugins installed (Inquisitor, Saft, TabExpose). I really enjoyed them but I knew they were the cause. I uninstalled 2 of them and left only Inquisitor. The biggest memory usage I have noticed so far was 180MB. Worked.

Which version of Safari are you using? Is it Safari 3 which came with the 10.4.11 update? I'm noticing a few threads over the past week regarding problems with version 3 and plug-ins.

Consider that this thread dates from 2006. That was probably Safari 2.

Hi Chabig, I thought gawelsk's post looked like it was from yesterday, so I thought I'd ask about it.
