SOLVED - disc is not recognized when trying to burn DVDs or CDRs
My MacBook Pro will not recognize any blank media. This was working perfectly, and I even burned 3 DVDs over the past week.
I now get the following message everytime I insert new blank media: "This disc cannot be used because it is not recognized." I have tried many different discs and I have tried 3 different types of mediaa, all from batches that were previously working with this machine. Including DVD+R DL, DVD+R (from two different manufactures), and CD-R. I recieve the same error message (listed above) for all the media. I can play media that I have burned, and I can play purchased DVDs and CDs. I can also play media burned on other computers. In the time between the last sucessfully burned DVD, and the first "failed" disc there was a time of a couple of hours. Here is some information on my setup from the System Profiler: Hardware Overview: Machine Name: Mac Machine Model: MacBookPro2,2 Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2.33 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 2 L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB Memory: 2 GB Bus Speed: 667 MHz Boot ROM Version: MBP22.00A5.B01 SMC Version: 1.12f5 Serial Number: XXXXXXXXXXXX Sudden Motion Sensor: State: Enabled Note: There is a "real" Serial Number, I x'ed it out. HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA4080MA: Firmware Revision: AE38 Interconnect: ATAPI Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported) Cache: 2048 KB Reads DVD: Yes CD-Write: -R, -RW DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO Media: Media Type: DVD+R DL Blank: Yes Erasable: No Overwritable: Yes Appendable: Yes System Software Overview: System Version: Mac OS X 10.4.9 (8P2137) Kernel Version: Darwin 8.9.1 Boot Volume: Macintosh HD The system profiler actually shows correctly the inserted media, even though the rest of the system does not to recognize it. I've already tried some of the "simple" things like repairing disc permissions. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you. PROBLEM SOLVED! I have a Western Digital MyBook. WD installed some file which caused this error. I removed the file, rebooted my system, and now it works. See this thread in Apple Support for more details. http://discussions.apple.com/thread....sageID=4343400 Thanks to macosnoob for all your help. Last edited by sirrond; 06-10-2007 at 10:11 PM.
