how to make iPhone not launch iPhoto automatically

Is there a way to make iPhone not launch iPhoto automatically when I hook it in? I have looked all over all sorts of preferences and I can't find it!

I don't want it to auto-open itunes either as a matter off act. But iTunes I can deal with, it's usually open already anyway. But that clunky-butted iphoto I could live without! It usually takes me a full 2 minutes to wait for iphoto to open, and then immediatly quit it.

I suppose I could spitefully force it to quit as it opens, but I am hoping I am missing some checkbox.

First, launch Image Capture while your iPhone is connected. Image Capture can be found in your computer's Applications folder.

Go to the 'Devices' pulldown menu and select iPhone. Now, go to the Image Capture pulldown menu and select Preferences. In the General tab, change "When a camera is connected, open" to "No application". Click OK, then quit Image Capture.

Thanks for that trevor. That has been bugging me for a while now.

Interestingly, iPhoto only opens if you have pics on the phone. No pics, no open.

Hmm I feel like that should have been easier, and much more intuitive.

Thanks a bunch for the solution.

Thank you! That's the best hint in a long time!

I've been annoyed by the auto-launch of iPhoto since last July! The program slows down my computer to a standstill and ALL ACTIVITY MUST STOP until it finishes launching. Granted, I have only 256 MB of RAM. Nevertheless, there should be a much easier way of turning this off. Thank you for the tip -- it will make my computer life much more pleasant.

Be aware that this method also disables the automatic launching of iPhoto when you connect a digital camera.
