Desktop Widgets in Leopard

I noticed when I upgraded to Leopard, my Yahoo widgets program will not open or open in Rosetta? So, how can I use widgets on my desktop without opening Dashboard? I've surfed around and cannot find the answer. Can you run dashboard widgets or old yahoo widgets on your desktop without opening Dashboard? Thanks.

Type the first line into the program Terminal, located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.

To use it, you enter dashboard. Click and hold the widget you want and press F12.

I just tested it in Leopard. It does work. Once dashboard is restarted, hold onto a widget while in Dashboard (hold mouse button down on it) and press F12. The widget transfers to the regular desktop. To move it back, repeat from the desktop.

Yup, I did that after typing the code in the terminal, and it did not work for me.

Odd inconsistencies with the Leo... like my safari issue that some but not all are experiencing. WTF....

Did you try logging out and back in or restarting?

Or typing 'killall Dock' into the terminal, without quotes?

Besides the "dev mode" trick posted here, you can also use Amnesty to run your Dashboard widgets on your desktop. It's shareware, but it does allow you to select the window level your widgets use on the desktop (as opposed to the "dev mode" trick where the widgets float over all your apps). Dashboard widgets running in Amnesty also have Konfabulator-like functions (opacity, lock in place, no-click, etc.).

Is there also a way to prevent the widgets on the desktop from being on top?

Not at this time. This is a kludge to get it on the desktop. I doubt there would be a fix in the future.

After struggling with this myself for a while I think the confusion is that not everyone has the F12 bound to Dashboard. F12 didn't work for me and after beating on it for a while I discovered that I had Ctrl-F4 bound to hide and show Dashboard. Using that key while clicking on a widget did the trick. You can see what key you have bound to this, or change it, in the Expose/Spaces System Preferences.

Is there a way to reinstall just Dashboard in Leopard?
My widgets quit working, I have tried all of the suggestions on Apple Discussions regarding Dashboard.
Nothing seems to work. I really don't want to do a complete re install of Leopard.
