iPhoto Not loading

Hi Peeps!

I recently backed up my Powerbook G4 1.25ghz running Tiger 10.4.11 using carbon copy cloner. After checking that the clone boots up ok I proceeded to re-install OS X 10.4.

My only problem is that iPhoto 7.1.3 is no longer working. I copied the iphoto library over from my backup, however every time I launch the app, the icon bounces up and down a couple of times and then nothing else.

Can someone assist?

Use the "Console" application (in /Applications/Utilities) to look at both the console and system logs. Show us (via copy & paste) any messages that occurred around the time when you tried to run iPhoto.

Ok - you are running the "Console" application - right?
It shows you the messages from a log file. There are several log files and you can choose which one is shown by selecting it in the list at the left side of the Console window. If the list is not showing, click on the "Show Log List" button at the left side of the toolbar.

Look at the "system.log" and at the "Console Messages". Note that each message is time-stamped. Use the time & date on the messages to find those that occurred around the time you tried to launch iPhoto.

Thanks Hayne - The console proved to be very useful.

Solution:

I copied the files that were missing as per the logs that were created.

Looks like part of iPhoto is missing, so it can't startup. Your photos are safe, but you need to reinstall iPhoto for it to work again.

No need to re-install just copy the files that are creating the errors over from backup!

Exactly the same thing is happening to me (idvd is also not working) after i have just swapped to a new bigger hard drive, swap went well, reloaded Tiger then used Migration assistant to swap over everything from my Lacie firewire backup drive. Every thing works perfectly (even my old emails are there!!) but iphoto and idvd wont open, click the icon in the dock one bounce them nothing. Error message in the console thing reads for iphoto

I realise i need to copy over some files from my backup to replace some corrupt ones on the new HD but i don't know which ones to copy and from where.

Sorry if this is basic stuff but i'm fairly clueless with stuff like this

Thanks

Phil
